The Fort Belvoir MWR Archery and Hunting Programs have been cited as model programs and received attention in both local and national hunting publications. These facilities represent the most complete archery complex in Virginia and possibly anywhere. All facilities are in top condition and are rated a "Four Star Facility by The National Field Archery Association and The Virginia Bowhunters Association." These facilities are maintained by MWR Range Volunteers. Youth, Adult and Scout Archery Instruction is conducted by Certified NFAA Advanced Level Instructors on these ranges, during specific periods. International Bowhunter Education Program Classes are also conducted in the Archery Center Classroom, by Certified IBEP Instructors in support of the Fort Belvoir Bowhunting Program. Bowhunters interested in deer and turkey hunting on the Post are required to have completed a State Hunting Safety Course, an IBEP Course and to qualify by demonstrating an archery proficiency test with broadhead arrows. An annual qualification fee is charged to interested hunters and remains active for participation during the Spring Gobbler season. All appropriate Virginia licenses are also required.
