Summer time equipment rental information: July and August are normally our busiest months for rental of outdoor equipment and party items. Reserve your charcoal cookers, dunk tanks, canopies, tables and chairs as soon as possible. You do not want to miss out. We also offer volleyball sets, softball sets and other items such as tug of war ropes, horseshoe sets and even potato sacks. Add a variety of outdoor games and make your gathering a memorable event.
What to do when September arrives: If “mother nature” cooperates, the temperature should drop to a comfortable cool and pleasant condition. The leaves on the trees may start changing into their beautiful fall colors. If this is the case, it is time to go camping and possibly backpacking. Our center offers camping tents, two burner stoves, lanterns, sleeping bags and small and large backpacks. All camping items are issued as “first come, first served.” Arrive between 4 – 6 pm on Thursday evenings or bright and early at 8 am on Friday mornings and gather all of your camping needs. Our operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am until 6 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 am until 1 pm.
Archery Center and
Bowhunting
The Archery Center and its most wonderful variety of bowhunting ranges are located at the bottom of Warren Road directly next to the Potomac River. The Center offers one indoor field point range with competition style targets. The center has opened a completely new reconstructed outdoor field point range. It is probably the best looking range in the state of Virginia. There is a fourteen target field point walk through range. There may possibly be another new addition to our range assortment. A brand new outdoor broadhead range. And finally, everyone must try the “3D techno computerized” indoor shooting range. Bring one or two friends to the techno range and compete against one another. This is guaranteed fun for all.
Fall and Winter
Bowhunting Update
It is never too early to start practicing for the Fall and Winter Deer and Turkey hunting season. Bowhunting is the only form of hunting on Fort Belvoir. The first qualification proficiency test will take place on Saturday, August 30 from 8 am through 12 pm and 1 pm through 4 pm. This is the only time the bowhunter can try once in the morning to qualify and once again in the afternoon. One broadhead target is set up in our indoor field point range for practice for an additional $3.00 usage fee. The qualification test fee of $22.00 entitles the bowhunter to hunt during the Spring Gobbler season with no additional costs.
All specific information for Bowhunting season will be available for distribution on Saturday, August 30, 2003.
Important Qualification information: To speed up the entire Qualification process, everyone must be ready to list the make, model, color and license number of the vehicle or vehicles used during hunting season. You must also list the next of kin information with name, telephone number and / or cell phone number. This information is needed in case of any emergencies.
If you want to complete the entire process you will need a Virginia State hunting license, Big game license and an Archery license. You must show proof of attendance at a Virginia State Hunter Safety course or a safety class from another state. The bowhunter must also show his or her International Bowhunting Education Program (IBEP) card or the green MWR hunting card from a previous year. The Outdoor Recreation team always looks forward to the next exciting and fun hunting season.
