Stabilization Option Approved for Soldiers with High School
Seniors
The
Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, Army has approved a new procedure
to allow soldiers with high school seniors to request stabilization
from PCS moves. The request is initiated by the soldier and is intended
to stabilize the high school student for their senior year. Requests
are submitted to the unit commander and should include DA form 4187,
the student's name, ssn and a letter/memo from the school with the
student's projected graduation date. PERSCOM is the approval authority
and will consider requests in light of mission requirements, but
will attempt to grant the request if possible.

STANDARDS
OF LEARNING
The
Virginia Board of Education has adopted Standards of Learning
or (SOL) in four areas: English, mathematics, history and social
science and science. They provide standards for educational performance
in Virginia's schools. Standards of Accreditation for schools
are tied to the SOLs. Testing for the SOLs are administered in
grades 3, 5 and 8. SOLs are part of graduation requirements.

NEEDS
Ft. Belvoir has a very active Exceptional Family Member Program.
Numerous support groups and classes are offered. Ms. Rene Fizer

The
Fairfax County Public School District has three Parent Resource
Centers. The Parent Resource Center for Area I is located at
Hayfield Elementary School Parent Resource Center. The hours
are M&Tu 9:00am-12:00pm & Thurs 3:00 pm-7:00pm. The address is
7633 Telegraph Rd, Alexandria, VA 22315. The phone number is
(703) 924-4512. Ms. Kathy Andrus is the Parent Liaison. She can
offer information and assistance on the Special Education process

Prince
William County Schools has a Parent Resource Center which provides
support, training, and information to parents and teachers of
children with special needs. It is located at Pennington School,
Room 25, 9305 Stonewall Road, Manassas, VA 20110. The phone number

information on moving with a child with special needs can be

YOUTH
SERVICES
There
is a very active Youth Service program at Ft. Belvoir. They have
a nice facility that the kids are currently redecorating. Go

SCHOOL
AGE CHILD CARE
Childcare
for school age children is available at Ft. Belvoir School Age
Services program for children in grades one through six. Hours
of operation are from 6 am. to 6 pm. Children are bused to and
from Ft. Belvoir Elementary School. For more information on enrollment

Childcare for school age children is available through Fairfax County
Public School system for parents who do not live on Ft. Belvoir and who
are not able to transport their children to and from the Ft. Belvoir
School Age Services site. The program offers care year round. You can

William County Schools have a School Age Care program at
