Welcome
to Fort Belvoir Child and Youth Services (CYS). We are happy that
you have chosen our programs to assist you with your child care
needs. We hope that together we can provide the nurturing, positive
environment your child needs and deserves. Our goal is to assist
each child by promoting his/her intellectual growth, physical ability,
and social skills. We have
the responsibility to provide
a safe, healthy environment, enriching activities, and warm, loving
care for every child enrolled in our programs. We will strive to
create a setting that enhances a child's self-concept and promotes
a positive self-image. Under the regulatory guidance of AR 608-10,
CYS programs are offered as a supplement to the family, not as a
substitute. We therefore seek your involvement and welcome your
comments and questions. Thank you for entrusting your child to our
care. We are sincere in our commitment to offer a high quality,
developmental program for each child.

Fort
Belvoir CYS offers various programs to support children and families
with child care, recreation, socialization, and child development
for children ages 4 weeks to 19 years. The Child Development Centers
(CDC's) offer full day and hourly child care programs for ages 6
week through 5 years old. Our School Age Services (SAS) program
offers a variety of care, which includes part day preschool and
full day, hourly, and before and after school care for school age
children. The Family Child Care (FCC) program offers full day, hourly,
before and after school, and extended hours care for ages 4 weeks
to 12 years old. The Youth Services (YS) program offers an after
school middle school program, open recreation, health and fitness,
and social opportunities for 6th grade and up free of charge.
North
Post Child Development Center (NPCDC) is
located at 5925 Meeres Road, just up the road from the Commissary
and PX and across from the elementary school. The NPCDC just received
reaccreditation from the National Association for the Education
of Young Children. Programs available include full day care for
children 6 weeks through 5 years.
South
Post Child Development Center (SPCDC)
is located at 5952 12th Street, next to the Chapel and across from
the Specker Field House. The center accredited by the National
Association for the Education of Young Children. Programs available
at SPCDC include full day and hourly care for ages 6 weeks through
5 year old. Check
out their web page on how to make reservations.
Family
Child Care (FCC)
offers full day, hourly, before and after, and extended care for
ages 4 weeks through 12 years old. FCC trains, certifies and monitors
family members who provide child care in government housing. FCC
homes provide the same child care programs as inthe Child Development
Centers (CDC's) and have some additional benefits. Homelike atmospheres,
opportunities for siblings to be in care together, and more flexible
hours than the CDC's are hall marks of FCC benefits. For more information
please visit http://www.armyfcc.army.mil.
School

available in the afternoon for unscheduled early school closures,
but full day care is available on teacher workdays, winter and spring

on family income.
The

may participate in sports will be accepted. Sport physicals must
be updated annually and be valid for the duration of the sport.
The
Registration
office is located at Markham School Age Services,
Bldg. 950, 9500 Barlow Road. It offers a one stop registration program
for all CYS activities including Youth Services, Sports and Fitness,
Child Development Centers, School Age Services and Family Child
Care. In addition, the program can assist you in scheduling short-term
alternative child care for special events. High demand for full
time child care may require a waiting list for some age groups.
Co-located with the Registration office is the Resource and Referral
Office which maintains the centralized waiting list and ensures
efficient and prompt placement in care when vacancies occur. Contact
them for information on available spaces at (703) 805-9114/9116/9118.
Print
out for the Waitlist (Reques for Care) paperwork for a full day
care position can be downloaded from our download
page. Please submit one for each child. After completing the
forms, they can be dropped off at the Resource and Referral Office
or faxed to (703) 805-9113 Attn: CYS Resource and Referral.
Training
and Curriculum/Programming Program Fort
Belvoir has five (5) Training and Curriculum Specialists (TACS)
and one (1) Training and Program Specialist (TAPS) who are responsible
for conducting training for all Child and Youth Services (CYS) direct
care and administrative staff. Training topics include child growth
and development, child health and nutrition, developmental programming,
discipline techniques, parent relations, family style dinning, child
abuse identification and reporting, and safety. "TACS CHAT"
is an opportunity for parents to ask developmental and programming
questions on an online bulletin board. Questions can be for a specific
TACS for a specific program or about any child growth and development
questions you may have. A link to the board is available on the
TACS page. Check out the TACS training calendar for a current listing
of classes open to parents.

Parent
participation is highly encouraged in all CYS programs, and
is actually necessary for some activities to be successful. There
would not be a Sports program without the dedication of volunteer
coaches. Some ways parents participate in child care programs may
include eating lunch with their child and participating in various
room activities (prior arrangements must be made with your child's
teacher). Parent Advisory Boards (PAB's) operate at all the Centers
and are open to all parents. Through the PAB, parents provide valuable
input to the programs in which their children spend a significant
portion of their day. To encourage parent participation, the "Why
I'm Needed"
(WIN)
program allows parents to earn points through volunteering opportunities
at the centers, or attending parenting classes through the Family
Advocacy Program.
The
WIN Program: This is a special program that enables
parents to earn up to a 10% discount on their 1st child's monthly
child care fees at the CDC or SAS. Parents perform essential tasks
for the CDC or SAS and earn a specific number of discount points.
Each discount point is worth 1 percent each up to a maximum of 10
discount points which is 10%. These discount points may then be
applied towards child care fee. Check with the CDC or SAS front
desk staff for more information.

Eligibility to use CYS programs include active duty military personnel,
DoD civilian personnel, reservists on active duty for 72 hours or
more, and DoD contractors working on Fort Belvoir. Military retirees
are only eligible for our sports programs and our free Middle School
and Teens program. Because child care programs are offered for the
sponsor to report to work so that the Army can meet its mission,
eligibility to use Fort Belvoir child care programs ends upon End
Term of Service (ETS) of sponsor, termination of sponsor's DoD employment
or DoD contractor's employment on Fort Belvoir. A
thirty-day grace period is authorized to find alternate care.
All
patrons must register with Central Registration. The Central Registration
phone numbers are (703) 805-9114/9116/9118.
