FORT BELVOIR HUNTING VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS Installation: Fort Belvoir, Virginia Activity and Title: Hunting Program Volunteer ________________________________________________________________________ MAJOR DUTY DESCRIPTION: Conducts or assists in shooting qualifications to determine proficiency with approved archery equipment. Sign up hunters during the Sunday sign up lottery system. Assist Game Warden by relaying observed or reported violations or other dangerous activities and environmental or safety problems. Notifies appropriate personnel when hunters fail to check out as required. Takes reservations and cancellations over the phone or at the Check Station counter. Maintains a log of unusual occurrences and violations. Checks hunters into and out of hunting areas. Inspects, weighs and collects biological samples from harvested deer or turkeys. Operates the Hunting Check Station by recording harvest information, proficiently filling out and issuing the Game Check card to the hunter, issuing any DMAP or DPOP tags provided by the state, issuing parking, tracking, youth and hunting passes. Must completely understand the LOI and Fact Sheet. Ability to answer any questions about the LOI and Fact Sheet to the hunters. Be able to answer any questions in reference to hunting areas and changes or restrictions with reference to the LOI and Fact Sheet. Must become familiar with the Virginia game laws and Post rules and regulations. Assists, as needed, in any other activities that may be necessary to successfully operate the hunting program. QUALIFICATION REQUIRMENTS: Successful completion of the International Bowhunting Education Program course. Attendance at the annual briefing conducted by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries personnel. Must commit to one season of on the job training with qualified MWR Hunting Program personnel. A commitment of no less than three to five hours per week or 12 hours per month will be required for training. After completion of the one year on the job training, a commitment must be made to volunteer a minimum of five hours per week or 15 hours per month the following season. A short resume must be submitted with two references. The continuation of service as a hunting volunteer and the ability to work independently will be determined by the completion of the on the job training, a short resume and two references. The final decision of acceptance will be made by the Outdoor Recreation Manager and the Fort Belvoir Game Warden. Remaining status as a qualified volunteer will require a commitment to fill 5 am to 7 am or 5 pm to 8:30 or 6:30 pm shifts in the Hunting Check Station during the week and any additional help required on Saturdays or Sundays. Volunteer recruitment will be a continual and ongoing process. |
