We make happy campers! The Fort Belvoir Outdoor Recreation Program offers a long list of outdoor recreation equipment for rent at modest per-day rates. This is your one-stop rental facility for all your recreation needs . The outdoor equipment rental shop can supply you with gear for both winter and summer seasons. Learn to Kayak with Team River Runner
1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the Month
Join Team River Runner, Outdoor Recreation and Benyaurd Pool to learn the basics of kayaking in the comfort of an indoor pool. One you have participated in the instruction at the indoor pool and are ready to hit the river, join Team River Runner on a local trip or visit Outdoor Recreation for a paddle at Tompkins Basin. A bi-weekly kayaking program is being offered to promote physical and emotional healing, and is designed for all Wounded Warriors and their Families. Free including equipment! Classes are given on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. Information is available by calling (703) 805-3081.

Tompkins Basin Family Campouts
Visit us today and reserve your tent space! Whatever equipment you don't have, we can rent to you. Cost includes a tent space, fishing equipment and bait, scavenger hunt, sporting equipment, and smores!
Hours: Sat 10am - Sun 4pm
Dates: 5 Weekends throughout the Summer.

Canoe and Kayak Rental

ODR is now renting their brand new canoes and kayaks!
Prices:
Single Kayak: $12 for half day, $14 daily, $ 40 Weekend Fri-Mon.
Tandem Kayak: $14 for half day, $28 daily, $44 Weekend Fri-Mon.
Canoe: $14 for half day, $28 daily, $44 Weekend Fri-Mon.
Prices include life preserver and car top carrier if needed. Also, Outdoor Recreation has a specific boat launching site on Tompkins Basin near the Outdoor Rec., building 778. For more information or to rent equipment, call 703-805-3081.

Fort Belvoir Dog Park

Dog Park Now Open
Fort Belvoir Outdoor Recreation’s dog park will be open full time from dawn to dusk, seven days a week and is free of charge! Directions to Outdoor Rec (and the Dog Park): From the intersection of Gunston Rd and 20th St - Take Warren Rd west down to the water, (Castle Park and Thompkins Basin) and its there on the right. Boat Launching

Boat Launching at Tompkins Basin
Non-motorized boat launching is authorized at Tompkins Basin. See Boat Launch Map. Prior to launching, boaters must register at Outdoor Recreation, bldg. 778. Call 703-805-3081 for information.


Fishing Requirements

Fishing License requirements for Fort Belvoir:
Ages 16 and above only require a Virginia State fishing license and a Freshwater license. Licenses are available at all local Walmarts, the Fort Belvoir Home and Garden Center (13th and Middleton Rd) and on-line.


Outdoor Recreation Trailblazers

If you enjoying walking/hiking and want to walk with others we want you to join our ODR Trailblazers group. There are over 50 active participants and there is no fee to join. Since April 2008, we have accomplished day walks/hikes in NO VA and Maryland such as the Shenandoah National Park, Harpers Ferry, Great Falls Park, Mason Neck, Huntley Meadows, Leesylvania State Park, and many more!  Almost all places we go are suggested by the participants so you may know of places we haven’t tried. The level of walks/hikes range from beginner to advanced and terrain can be either fields, hardwood forests, wetlands, beach, or mountains. Play Morning at the OutDoor Recreation Center

When: Tuesday Mornings (starting in Sept 2010)
Currently 1 summer meeting is scheduled for August 24th, 2010.
Location: Outdoor Recreation Center, 10155 Swift Rd. Bldg 778
Time: 1000-1200

Parents and children 6 years and under are invited to join in a free weekly stimulating play environment focusing on gross motor skill development and socialization of children. Each play session ends with a song time and a snack. The playgroup features age appropriate songs, stories, toys, activities, arts and crafts for parents to share with their child. This is a fantastic way to meet other moms and dads, share information, and create play dates for your child. First time attendees are asked to bring military ID and immunization record. Immunization records are required for all children. Parents of infants are asked to bring a blanket for the floor.

Arts & Crafts Center Framing Class
3rd Sat of each Month / 8 am-12 noon
Basic framing techniques are taught the 3rd Saturday of the month from 8 am-12 noon. $60 includes an 8 x10 kit. The kit contains a picture, mat board, foam core, glass, molding and mounting materials as well as use of the facility. Students will go home with framed artwork ready to hang on the wall. Love and Logic Parenting
Tues / Sept 14, 21, 28 - 2010 / 5-7pm
A three night class running Tuesday nights starting on Sept 14th. This program demonstrates to parents how to educate their children with love and logic by teaching them: the 4 steps to responsibility, recognizing who has control, and also designing consequences for unpleasant behaviors.
