Van Noy Book Club for Adults

Our next book club selection is “Sarah’s Key” by Tatiana de Rosnay. Ages: Birth - Rising 6th Grade //
Starting june 9th you can pick up your reading logs at the circulation desk or in the children’s area. Read 24 books and return your log to us for some fantastic prizes and a special jewel or coin to put up on our board to track your progress.

Ages: Rising 7TH – 12TH GRADE //
Pick up your special iRead bingo card in the YA area. Complete a bingo, return your card, and pick up your prize! Then keep on playing – try for a blackout! Be sure to check the treasure box for our “anytime activity” of the week.

Every so often we get a special visit from Chance the Reading Dog. Chance is a member of Therapy Dogs International and he loves to listen to children read books! Chance's visits will be posted in the events section above.

FIRST FLOOR

Children's Library
In the Children's Library (on the 1st floor), parents and children can can find books, participate in summer reading programs and activities, attend story-hours, use a computer together, or ask staff about great books to read.

Young Adult Collection
The YA collection has a new home near the circulation desk. It is continuously growing with fiction, non-fiction and reference books. You will also find audio books and some graphic novels.

Audio/Visual Collections
DVD’s:  adventure, classics, foreign language, documentaries, instructional, children’s, performance and award winning films. You’ll find it all here.

Audio Books, or “talking books”, of current fiction, classics, non-fiction and biographies are available.

Books!
Circulating fiction and non-fiction books are on the 1st floor.  We are currently in process of updating the collection to be able to offer you the latest and greatest.



SECOND FLOOR

Career Center
Books on how to write resumes, prepare for interviews, change careers, and locate jobs are available on the 2nd floor as well as workstations with MS Word for writing resumes and Internet access for searching for job opportunities.

Education Center

Reference books about choosing a college and information about financial aid are available. There are also circulating Exam books for study purposes (SAT, GRE, ASVAB, etc.).

Reference Department
Non-circulating reference books on a variety of subjects are available for research. Online databases are available here on this webpage, look on the right side of the page. A Reference Librarian is on hand to assist with research projects, and to help locate needed information.

Periodicals
Magazines, newspapers, Consumer Reports, used car price guides, and related materials may not be checked out but are available for leisure reading or research.

Military History
A collection of circulating books, biographies, and non-circulating reference materials on military history are in the Military History Room.


Patron Eligibility

You can be a patron...

If you are:

  • Military stationed at Fort Belvoir (including TDY) and your family.
  • Members of armed forces and their families residing in the area.
  • Retired military and their families living in the area.
  • DoD civilians working/living in the area.

Present the appropriate ID, register, and you can begin borrowing immediately.

Arts & Crafts Center Framing Class
3rd Sat of each Month / 8 am-12 noon
Basic framing techniques are taught the 3rd Saturday of the month from 8 am-12 noon. $60 includes an 8 x10 kit. The kit contains a picture, mat board, foam core, glass, molding and mounting materials as well as use of the facility. Students will go home with framed artwork ready to hang on the wall. Love and Logic Parenting
Tues / Sept 14, 21, 28 - 2010 / 5-7pm
A three night class running Tuesday nights starting on Sept 14th. This program demonstrates to parents how to educate their children with love and logic by teaching them: the 4 steps to responsibility, recognizing who has control, and also designing consequences for unpleasant behaviors.
