Welcome to the newest Sports & Fitness facility!

Kawamura Center is now home to a brand-new Human Performance Center designed to change the way you train at Fort Belvoir. This modern facility is filled with state-of-the art functional training equipment which includes power and Olympic lifting platforms, bumper plates, TRX Suspension and Rip Trainers, kettlebells, dumbbells, battleropes, prowler sleds, Concept2 rowers and medicine balls.

Movement matters at the Kawamura Human Performance Center. First, we want you to move better and then we want you moving more. We want to increase your athletic ability and decrease your risk of injury. In order to help you achieve your goals, we utilize four (4) training concepts:  1) Functional Movement Systems (FMS); 2) National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA); 3) USA Weightlifting (USAW); and 4) CrossFit.

The Kawamura Human Performance Center will offer FMS Screens, CrossFit WODs (Workout of the Day), Olympic lifting classes, TRX Suspension and Rip group training, kettlebell conditioning and functional training classes.

* Eligibility: Active duty, other military ID card holders, and DoD civilians are eligible to use the new Kawamura Human Performance Center.

Requirements: All must attend an Introductory Class that will include a movement assessment, presentation, and workout.

Functional Training
What is it?

Eligibility: Military, DA Civilians, Retirees, Dependants (18+).

  • Functional training will aim to provide you with the strength, endurance, power, speed, flexibility, and range of motion you need to thrive through your life. We utilize basic functional movement patterns such as pushing, pulling, squatting, rotating, carrying and gait patterns (walking and running) every day. Through Dynamic Training, Metabolic Conditioning, and Extreme Training, our functional training program will utilize exercises that are aimed to improve your movement proficiency in these areas to give you an edge and enhance your performance, so you can achieve your desired goals in a safe manner.


The Program

  • Functional Training will operate in 6 week sessions with a two (2) week break in between sessions.
  • The program will consist of the following training concepts:
    • Dynamic Training- A training method with a focus on gymnastics, body weight, and functional movement exercises.
    • Metabolic Conditioning (MetCon) - A method of training that involves a very high work rate, using exercises designed to burn more calories during your workout and maximize calories burned after your workout, or your afterburn.
    • Extreme Training- A training method intended to focus on speed, power, quickness and agility.

  • Monday-Friday 6am-7am
  • Monday/Wednesday 11:30am-12:30pm
  • Friday 11:30am-12pm (Cardio Based/Burnout Class)


Registration Info

  • Register at Graves Fitness Center or The Body Shop Fitness Center.
  • Active duty may register 2 weeks prior to the start of each new session.
  • Other military ID card holders and DoD civilians may register 1 week prior to the start of each new session.
  • Units must contact Functional Training Instructors at least 72 hours in advance to drop-in for the class:

Pay $71.00 for a 10 week session / Pay $36.00 for a 5 week session
Pay-As-You-Go: $7.00 per class for the walk-in fee

Fitness Class Fees
Fort Belvoir Sports and Fitness pays a contractor Non Appropriated Funds (NAF) in order to provide aerobics classes. Charging a small fee allows the fitness centers to recover a portion of the NAF costs as well as provide a highly desirable aerobics program. Without a fee based program, we would not be able to offer the quality or quantity of aerobics classes that we currently have. Thank you for your support.

Fitness Class Descriptions

  • Absolution is a core class that challenges your functional movement within your core. 
  • Dance Fusion: Fun & upbeat hiphop and salsa grooves to get your heart pumping.
  • Pilates: Focuses on core postural muscles which help balance and support the spine. Learn
    breathing and alignment techniques of the spine.
  • Power Pump: Challenges all major muscle groups by completing squats, presses, lifts and curls.
  • Rep Fusion: Utilizes dumbells and barbells to get your heart pumping and work your abs.
  • Spin: Indoor cycling using stationary bike. Bring a water bottle, towel and stiff soled shoes.
  • Sport Conditioning: Kickboxing, cardio drills and weights - lots of variety!
  • Step/High Low Impact: Aerobic exercise with modification in intensity and utilizing a step.
  • Step & Sculpt: Upper and lower body workout using a step. Incorporates sculpting techniques
    with bands and dumbells to tone.
  • Turbo Kick: Low-impact exercises with full body kicking and punching exercises.
  • Yoga: Focus on breathing and alignment while building strength, flexibility, balance
    and concentration.
  • Yogalates is a blend of yoga and Pilates for complete fitness, strength and flexibility.
  • Zumba: A fun atmosphere where a fusion of international moves is set to Latin music.

 


RUN ALL YEAR LONG

Fort Belvoir's Sports & Fitness holds multiple 5K, 5 Mile, 10K walks and runs. Please be aware that the runs can SELL OUT if the maximum number of participants is reached, so sign up early!

Army Ten-Miler

America's largest ten-mile race, held every October in Washington, DC and sponsored by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington. Each year tens of thousands of runners and spectators come to join in this race classic. The Army Ten-Miler proceeds support Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation, a comprehensive network of support and leisure services designed to enhance the lives of soldiers and their families. The race starts and finishes at the Pentagon, passing by DC landmarks including the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and the Capitol Building. The annual Army Ten-Miler race weekend events also include a youth run, a youth activity fair, and a pre-race pasta dinner. The race draws a large number of civilian and military running teams.

MWR’s all-new Civilian Health & Fitness Program empowers you to get fit DURING your work day; allowing three hours a week of command-approved fitness time for 6 months! Great for beginners and cost-free, there’s no excuse not to give it a try. Plus – Sports & Fitness offers a wide-range of authorized activities; from group exercise classes, water fitness, to weight training…find the exercise routine that works for you! This great opportunity is open to Fort Belvoir Civilian Full-time & Part-Time Employees. Who would you like to be 6 months from now?
ELIGIBILITY
Personnel assigned to Garrison as regular full-time and part-time Appropriated Fund (AF) and Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) employees are eligible; except firefighters (physical fitness requirement of occupation) and Flex or Contractors

APPROVED ACTIVITIES

  • Organized activities implemented by the Sports & Fitness team
  • Walking, jogging, running outside or on a treadmill
  • Fun Walks/Runs
  • Cardio Equipment, elliptical/recumbent cycle/stepper
  • Weight Lifting

PROGRAM START DATE

  • 6 month start date will begin on date staff member approval is received.
  • Members may only participate one time.
  • REQUIREMENTS FOR PROGRAM: Interested participants must download & turn in completed forms to Program Specialist:
    • Download 2014 Program Packet which includes the following:
      • Employee/Supervisor Agreement
      • Release & Hold Harmless Agreement
      • Civilian Health and Fitness PAR-Q (Physician Approval Form if high risk)
      • Fitness Staff Approval Form

PROGRAM DETAILS - (DIRECTED BY MWR’S SPORTS & FITNESS)
Services only available to program participants:

  • Fitness Liaison: One fitness staff member will be appointed to each participant to provide continued guidance and motivation throughout the program
  • Orientations: Cardio, stretching, machine, free weight, and cable crossover offered by liaisons
  • Nutritional class: Nutritional guidance provided by dietetic professionals
  • Punch cards: Free aerobics classes, bike rentals, water aerobics, and pool passes.  Participants who record perfect attendance for an entire calendar month, may qualify for an extra punch card
  • Health promotion program packet: Health education information, Goal Tracking, Log Book, Prescriptive workouts

MEASUREMENTS & POLICY (Download Offical Memo and Briefing)

  • The Employee & Supervisor must enter into a written agreement and the participant must complete an enrollment packet obtained from the Sports & Fitness Civilian Health & Fitness program
  • Participants are granted 1 hour of administrative leave 3 times per week not to exceed 6 months.
  • Cannot rollover time due to mission and/or leave
  • Employees will be registered under RecTrac and scan in when working out
  • Employees may participate only one time
  • RecTrac data base will be used to track participation upon supervisor’s request
  • Members who do not utilize workout time may be removed from the program
