POOL EVENTS

May 2012 is the Month of Strong B.A.N.D.S. promoting fitness & resiliency - You can WIN prizes every Day!
The U.S. Army Strong B.A.N.D.S. campaign promotes Soldier and Family fitness and community well-being by showcasing garrison physical activities during National Physical Fitness and Sports Month in May.  B.A.N.D.S. stands for Balance, Activity, Nutrition, Determination and Strength -- all key components of overall well-being. A program of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation directorate, the campaign is designed to energize and inspire community members to live a healthy lifestyle. The garrisons will give black and gold wristbands to participants of their activities during the promotion. The black represents determination and the gold, achievement.

Cardboard Regatta

Ever think that only the mega-rich can own a sea-worthy ship and sail in a regatta? Not true!!! At Fort Belvoir's Cardboard Boat Regatta, all participating watercraft are made entirely of the same readily available material - cardboard! Don't be fooled by the simplicity of lowly cardboard; it can be transformed into whimsical pieces of floating art. Whether your team spends a few hours or multiple weeks designing and creating your unique vessel, the objective is clear: have an outrageously good time and win if you can! Some even strive to go down in a spectacular blaze of glory to earn honors for the most fantastic sinking. Spectators are welcomed to attend the Regatta and encourage the crew aboard each ship!

Let's see how many sea-worthy ships make it across the choppy waters of DFMWR's North Post Outdoor Pool on June 9th at 9 am. Gather your crew members, select a Captain and fill out a registration form by June 1st. Attend the Captain's Meeting - 11 am on May 23rd at the Community Center - to review the rules and get some construction tips for your team. To start your voyage, download the registration form here, call 703-805-9239 or register in person at the Community Center.

Special promotion for Regatta participants: stick around for the Pool Bash and enjoy more splashing in the pool, games and food! Non-participants of Regatta must pay regular pool entry fee.
